Jamaica Roundup

When last I posted I was sitting Kingston, Jamaica helping AISK. The job went relatively well, and it was great to see education in another country.

The big push there was to move their services to there own servers. We were able to bring mail, blogs, cms, web, and chat services all in-house. While I think this is great, I also got a first hand view of how hard it is for a small IT shop, whether in Jamaica or anywhere else, to keep up with all of the technological innovations out there.

It made me apprecriate Google Apps for Education just a little bit more. It also makes me wish that state or federal government would work on a non-anonymous “web” for K-20 education. I mean why can’t you have a “subnet” of the Internet that is just for education?

Seems obivious and crazy a the same time…
